Working for the future of Roma children

For over twenty years, Romano Ilo, la Bohème has been working to promote equal opportunities and dignity for Roma families. A non-profit organisation recognised as being of general interest under the 1901 Act, it was founded in 2000 by Ljubica Stankovic in response to a reality that is all too often overlooked: without support, access to education and fundamental rights remains a daily struggle for many Roma families.

The association was founded on a personal story and a strong conviction. Having been denied, during her childhood, the education and support to which every child is entitled, Ljubica Stankovic chose to turn her own experience into a cause. Her aim is clear: to enable Roma children to access education, build a future for themselves, and no longer suffer the same injustices.

Every day, Romano Ilo, la Bohème supports Roma families, whether settled or itinerant, with administrative procedures, access to social rights and their children’s education. We welcome, listen to and support families in putting together their paperwork, filling in forms and referring them to the relevant organisations. Our work is based on a community-focused approach, founded on trust, respect and knowledge-sharing. Because education is a key driver of empowerment, we work to ensure that every child can grow up with real prospects, regain confidence in the future and find their rightful place in society.
